Help Dee Get to Haiti

Hi Everyone - a former colleague of mine is headed to Haiti to volunteer with Mama Baby Haiti.  Please help her get there!  Here’s the note from Dee:

Hello Friends, Family, and Friends of Friends and Family!

I’m going to Haiti!!  I’m so very blessed to have this opportunity to accompany my new midwifery preceptor on this trip to Haiti for two weeks volunteering with the organization Mama Baby Haiti.  (www.mamababyhaiti.org) .  The situation in Haiti is desperate and through the Mama Baby Haiti organization’s efforts and the many volunteers and donors that support it, women and families in Haiti have access to prenatal care, midwifery services and naturopathic physician care.

To help fund different parts of this trip, I’m asking all friends and family (and all friends of friends and family) to please consider donating what you can for this amazing cause and opportunity.  No amount is too small and no amount is too big to give.  There is a DONATE button below for your convenience. ;o)

Haiti Statistics…..

Less than 45% of the population has clean water – 74 babies die per 1000 births – 12% of all babies die before their first birthday – one third of all children die before their fifth birthday – one in 71 women will die in pregnancy or childbirth – half the population earns less than $60 a year.

WHAT:

Deanna Sauter is going to Haiti to volunteer with Mama Baby Haiti as a student midwife!

WHEN:

March 13th – March 28th (for 2 weeks)

HOW TO HELP:

I would love your donation support in either one of two ways:

1.    Each volunteer is allowed to bring 50lbs of medical supplies on the airline for donation to the Haiti birth center and we would love donations toward our costs of buying these supplies – we can get these supplies at $2.00 per pound through MedShare.org in San Leandro (http://www.medshare.org) and we are accepting donations to stock up on my trip AND future trips for other midwives volunteering in Haiti in the next 6 months.  We are hoping for $500 or 250lbs of medical supplies.

2.    Or consider donating to support and offset my volunteer trip (toward the cost of my room, board and flight).  As a volunteer is my responsibility to pay my own airfare and room and board costs which is totaled at $1850.
